The Ottawa river defines the border between the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.  Various sight seeing boat tours and charters are avalable in the summer on the river below Parliament Hill to the east, to the Gatineau river and on the Rideau Canal. The Rideau Canal is a world heritage site, is the oldest continuously operated canal system in North America and allows boats to gain access to the Ottawa river through eight downtown locks beside the Château Laurier Hotel. The river above the Deschanes rapids is home to four area sailing clubs. There are also a number of  ramps providing access for pleasure and fishing boats.  See the links for river access, sailing, fishing and local beach information.
